In response to a request for information filed by the Immigrant Defense Project (“IDP”), the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has released data regarding arrests and prosecutions under ten misdemeanor provisions of the New York Penal Law (“NYPL”). The data set documents information regarding disposition, conviction, and sentence imposed for arrests under NYPL 120.00 (assault in the 3rd degree), 145.00 (criminal mischief in the 4th degree), 155.25 (petit larceny), 165.15 (theft of services), 220.03 (criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree), 221.10 (criminal possession of marijuana in the 5th degree), 221.15 (criminal possession of marijuana in the 4th degree), 230.00 (prostitution), 240.37 (loitering for the purpose of engaging in a prostitution offense), and 265.01 (criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree).
